Below you will find videos and printed materials which are representative of my work in music ministry over the past several years. I sincerely hope that you enjoy listening to these pieces as much as I have enjoyed compiling them.

“Sing 4 Him” TV Special

In August 2018, the St. Benedict Parish Adult Choir was featured in an international TV special on Shalom World Network.

Solemn Vespers for All Souls

This is the complete broadcast of our 2020 All Souls Day service. I composed all of the music for this service myself, using the texts of The Office for the Dead. The organ processionals, based on chants of the Requiem Mass, were recorded separately and added in for the broadcast.

Christmas from the Tower

This hour-long special aired on December 18th, 2020. The Parish Christmas Concert has become a beloved annual tradition. Since the pandemic prevented us from gathering in-person, the music ministry put on a virtual concert to ring in the holiday season.

Mozart’s Coronation Mass: II. Gloria

This recording was taken at our Christmas Concert in 2017. Each year, the parish adult choir performs a major choral-orchestral work as part of our Christmas Concert. They are accompanied by members of the Ravenswood Community Orchestra, an all-volunteer ensemble in residence at St. Benedict Parish.

In Your Blessed Resurrection

Hymn based on The Prayer of Saint Benedict

I was tasked by our school administration to compose a hymn for our students based on The Prayer of Saint Benedict. Instead of composing a new melody, I used one of my favorite hymn tunes of all time, THAXTED. This tune was made famous by Gustav Holst in his Jupiter Suite. The recording below is an arrangement that combines THAXTED with a second melody taken from Holst’s Jupiter Suite. The video below was taken at a Mass celebrating the 100th anniversary of the dedication of St. Benedict church on April 22nd, 2017.

Laus Trinitati

An original composition based on a Latin poem by Saint Hildegard of Bingen

This piece is based on a poem by Saint Hildegard of Bingen, which I roughly translated into English. The compositional style is meant to mimic medieval compositional devices, such as organum and plainchant. I wrote this piece in celebration of an Icon which was donated to my parish. The Icon is a copy of Rublev’s famous depiction of the Holy Trinity, and was written using the same ancient techniques of the original. Just as the iconographer mimicked Rublev, I tried to mimic Saint Hildegard in my compositional style.

O, My People

The Reproaches

My setting of The Reproaches was recently published by GIA Publications. Below is the original version, which is slightly different from the final published version. Most notably, the word “O” was taken out in order to meet the strict guidelines of the ICEL. The version below was recorded in April 2018 as part of my choir’s appearance on “Sing 4 Him”, a program on Shalom World Television. You can find the latest version with a score preview and recording on the GIA website.

Ubi Caritas

Ola Gjielo’s setting of Ubi Caritas has become one of my adult choir’s favorite pieces. Gjielo combines chant-like melodic elements with glassy contemporary harmony in this masterful setting. The video below was recorded in April 2018 as part of my choir’s appearance on “Sing 4 Him”, a program on Shalom World Television.

Tower Arts Concert Virtual Series

As the pandemic raged through 2020, and as concert venues shuddered, I decided that our music program needed to do something to lift the spirits of our community. Thus, Tower Arts was born. A virtual concert can never capture the magic of the stage, but we tried our best to bring music and joy to those at home. All in all we produced three episodes, which you can view below.
